Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked by a bull terrier.

The incident occurred yesterday at approximately 3:10 pm near Langney Pond on Sandpiper Walk in Eastbourne.

The dangerously out‑of‑control dog, believed to be a bull terrier and Doberman cross, attacked a 44‑year‑old man who has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

An inquiry has led police to a 53‑year‑old woman, a dog owner known to the victim, who is now under arrest on suspicion of being responsible for the animal.

Police officers secured the area while waiting for paramedics to arrive, ensuring the safety of everyone at the nearby school and nursery.

Witnesses and anyone with information such as mobile phone, CCTV or doorbell footage is asked to report it to Sussex Police online, quoting serial 911.
