By releasing their upcoming track I See Fire, Brighton’s Dakka Skanks are not only reviving a centuries‑old musical tradition, they are also launching a fresh wave of musicians unafraid to speak their minds about the struggles of the working class.

Set for release on 18 September, the original soundtrack—co‑produced with five‑time Grammy Award‑winning producer Steve Dub—offers an introspective look at the mounting pressures, exhaustion, and frustration of everyday life in modern Britain.

Whether it’s the hassle of living paycheque to paycheque or the incessant rise in inflation that leaves households bracing with trepidation, the rhythmic blend of ska, reggae, punk, and dub becomes the musical texture through which socially conscious songwriting takes shape.

The band refuses to sugarcoat the authentic realities of life, instead acting as a messenger of defiance—an approach that fuelled a successful two‑week crowdfunding campaign, raising £25,000 to cover the recording costs of their debut album The Game.

This September, Dakka Skanks bring their Jamaican‑influenced rhythms on a 7‑date UK mini‑tour, with their Brighton show taking place at Hope & Ruin.
